Save the Hubble Inspiring Message of the Day:

"Because of the Hubble telescope I have been able to enter the beautiful world of the Universe. Great Thanks for the time It has sent the most interesting pictures world wide ! There are greater worlds to be explored (out of the Milky Way Galaxy and the our solar system) and hope they understand It in Nasa which blindly sets the resources only for the manned missions to the planet of Mars and the moon. Fight for the peoples right to be part of the future !" Yours, Arsi Saarijärvi Finland (Thank you Arsi. S.t.H.)

Save the Hubble Idea of the Day:

"I am in business so it makes sense to sell shares of the hubble...to businessmen and countries alike. Why not? Are we discovering the universe around us for selfish reasons or for humanity? If someone pays 10 million dollars to go to space, why not 1 million dollars for a share of the hubble and a possible visit to the space agency and get treated like a part owner? If there is anything I can do, please ask. IF the pen is mightier than the sword and a picture speaks a thousand words, the hubble will be saved. Rest assured. (p.s. I think the Democrats prefer the idea of the hubble ; Chris Wingfield ) (Thank you Chris! S.t.H.)

Save the Hubble Reason of the Day:

"How can they consider giving up on one of the most successful space projects that any country has ever produced. The Hubble has given us so much in terms of meaningful data from the distant reaches of the universe, as well as some of the most spectacular images of the wider universe around us that no human being could not feel in awe at living in amongst so much natural beauty. However, Hubble is capable of more, and to cut it off in its prime as a real tragedy. C Whyte England (Thank you Whyte! S.t.H.)

Save the Hubble Best Political Challenge of the Day:
(this IS a democratic site!)

"I'm shocked at this decision to junk Hubble. It's a wonder of the tech world and such a knee jerk reaction can only be expected from NASA if they are being forced to do so by Bush and his band of cowboys, who can't think beyond their ranch. Desperate to get public appeal, he allocates $ 500 billion to Mars project
which is at the blue print stage fully well knowing that best case it cannot happen before a decade and it wont matter to him then. Worst case scenario, this man will pollute this earth's politics for 4 years more but he's
interfering with the study of the universe 16 billion years old. SAVE THE HUBBLE !

Save the Hubble Hot Message of the Day:

"Hi !!
Will you save sometime late in the evening for something besides saving the hubble?? You might get a higher launch and even say hello to the Hubble while quickly passing by it, "up there"... I prefer to receive the answer personally. Kissies .
PS: Please, don´t put it online as "the Hubble hot message of the day!!!" (I'm sorry but I just couldn't resist! S.t.H.)

Save the Hubble Cryptographical Message of the Day:

"(...) I know ur 'working on it' but can u hurry up? u sed u were international! 4 ur info, America is NOT the holeworld and ur losing a lot of support disregarding us! plz just get on wiv it so every1 can help save the hubble. it's the best thing that ever happened to astronomy. if it's not saved, it has to be replaced bcoz nothin else has the same minus- Earth's atmosphere quality." Gareth (Well, it took me a while but I managed to decode it! Here is the answer):

D R Gareth, U R outdated! 4 UR info, International Petition has been online since feb 6! Top of home page , check: "Planet Earth Residents Only" link or go 2 www.savethehubble.com/petition.

Thank U 4 supporting us!

Save the Hubble (err) Unusual Idea of the Day:

"To whom it may concern,
I have been thinking about this issue recently and it appears that NASA is determined under all costs to bring Hubble out of orbit and return it to Earth. Now if we actually think about this, all may not be lost.

If you have read the recent concerns NASA has over Hubble breaking up on re-entry, the current odds of debris hitting someone are currently 1-700, too low for nasa, but in this we may be able to kill two birds with one stone.

Maintaining the Hubble in its current orbit is currently considered too dangerous, so with the returning booster why don't they fit some kind of heat shield which would protect Hubble on re-entry. With parachutes etc for soft touchdown. This would then allow them to make the updates required to hubble, it could then in theory be relaunched atop an automated heavy lift rocket into the same orbit or even better one to co-enside with the ISS. Another thought i had would be to modify and attach hubble to the ISS. The situation is then, they already have a design for a return module to bring hubble back and make service changes it eliminates the need for 'dangerous' spacewalking and keeps hubble alive. A few of my thoughts." Andy Harpin
(Err, "soft touchdown" you said? Well, it's an idea, what the heck!. S.t.H.)

Save the Hubble X-Files Message of the Day:

"'Why We Must Defend Hubble'
Right On! But the desertion of Hubble is not irrational but logical for Hubble has seen too much, opened too many doors, and inspired too many real thinkers! In the end, if this thinking dominates NASA, it is really the near-term end of space exploration; the Bush proposal will lead to shutdown of insights provided by space exploration.Where do such leanings come from? Bush is only the tip of the iceberg - he has made profession of openly conservative religious statements and THAT is the source of this pull-back from space exploration! Why is the conservative religious right fearful of space exploration? Ultimately, and this has already begun, encounters of alien civilizations will bring about the disintegration of conservative religious theology! A paradox in this theme is the openness expressed by the Vatican which leads the search of space through its ongoing astronomical observations: Strange but true -----!

NASA administrator Okeefe is falling for or may have even consciously agreed to this shutdown - a tough task considering that the dollars continue to flow from Congress. However, as failures mount, this flow would decrease to a trickle, not expand to the torrent required for trips to Mars etc. This is a reverse way to pull the plug on explorations.

What is best for humanity? Where will such attempts at pull-back from space lead us? Ultimately, the visions of men such as Stanley Kubrick (2001, A Space Odyssey) and George Lucas (Star Wars) will impel men to explore the universe. But, conservative religious philosophy of the far right will oppose all such movements. Just look at the nature of the beast, the beast of human fear which drives such reactions to the unknown (alien encounters)! Regards, Anthony J. Sanner Fair Oaks, CA US (What can I say?...The truth is out there...and what is the best way to look for it other than a space telescope? S.t.H.)
